Scent Work Seminar – October 2026

Wilmington Kennel Club (WKC)  is pleased to present two days of AKC Scent Work Seminars 2026 instructed by AKC Scent Work Judge and National Association of Canine Scent Work Instructor, Lori Kobayashi!

Registration is limited to 6 working teams per seminar and 25 auditors per seminar.

Prior training in the sport is a prerequisite for all working teams.  If you have any questions, prior to enrolling, contact Chris Atkinson at 1085atkin@gmail.com. 

October 24, 2026: Morning and Afternoon seminars focusing on beginner and intermediate handlers

October 24^th Seminars:

• Morning Seminar: Start lines and thresholds – how to create a start line routine; work threshold hides; search areas effectively.
• Afternoon Seminar: How to train for different types of distractors, from toys to food and more.

October 25, 2025: Morning and Afternoon seminars focusing on advanced handlers

October 25^th Seminars:

• Morning Seminar: Strategies and training for buried hides –  how to get a better indication and strategies for success.
• Afternoon Seminar: Reward and reinforcement – how and when to reward our dog to get a better indication, less aggressive and not looking at handler to see if they are “correct.”

Registration will open on June 15, 2026 at 7 pm EDT for WKC Members. Registration will open on June 22, 2026 at 7 pm EDT for non-members. Registration will close on September 15, 2026 at 12:00 noon.  EXPANDED REGISTRATION: To accommodate more schedules registration has been extended – it now closes on 10/2/2026!

There will be a wait list maintained – if a spot you want is sold out, please contact us at 1085atkin@gmail.com to join the waitlist. Registration and payment required for each seminar.

Pricing for EACH SEMINAR:

WKC Member  – $75 per working team, $50 per auditor

Non-WKC Member – $105 per working team, $60 per auditor

CANCELLATION TERMS: 

Policy:  applies to all registrants, working teams and auditors, that must withdraw for ANY reason, not limited to injury, illness, emergency or personal or work-related reasons.  If the event cannot take place or be completed by WKC by  reason of fire, civil disturbances, Acts of God, public emergency or any other cause beyond control of WKC, WKC will make a best effort to provide partial refunds after recouping its expenses.

• Cancel prior to 9/15/26 NOON – full refund less $10 processing fee IF WKC can fill your spot from its waitlist.
• Cancellation after 9/15/2026 12:01 pm or thereafter – no refund. Attendee may send substitute with prior notification to WKC, but notification must be no later than 10/23/26 NOON.
• Notification of cancellation or substitution of attendee must be sent to Chris Atkinson via email, 1085atkin@gmail.com.
• Refunds will be issued no later than 30 calendar days after cancellation.
